VGH Thrift Store makes spirits bright

VGH team members used a donation from the VGH Thrift Store to buy gift cards for mental health clients on Christmas day (l to r): Caitlin Sievenpiper, RN, and Drs. Anderson and Miller.

Thanks to the VGH Thrift Store, Christmas day was a little brighter for mental health clients at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH).

Proceeds from the store’s sales funded Tim Hortons gift cards and gift bags of treats, games and more for mental health clients who were inpatients at the VGH Psychiatric Assessment Unit and the Joseph & Rosalie Segal & Family Health Centre on Christmas day.

“A little goes a long way, especially during the holiday season,” says Sharon Marmion, program manager, Psychiatry. “On behalf of our staff, I’d like to thank the VGH Thrift Store for helping us do a little extra for the people in our care on Christmas.”

During the 2018 winter holiday season, the VGH Thrift Store donated almost $10,000 benefitting 472 residents and clients at five Vancouver Coastal Health facilities in Vancouver, including George Pearson Centre, Banfield and Willow Pavilion.
