Our Impact

The VGH Thrift Store is devoted to raising funds in support of patients, clients and families served by Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), UBC Hospital and other facilities and community services of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) in Vancouver.

Since opening its doors, the Thrift Store has donated more than $250,000 towards the purchase of equipment, renovations, clothing and comfort items for VCH-Vancouver patients, clients and residents.

 

Recent donations

In 2017, the Thrift Store’s donations totalled more than $68,000 and purchased the following:

  • 2 cough-assist machines for VGH
  • 1 neuro standing frame for the VGH Neurology Unit
  • 1 power wheelchair for the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre
  • 1 bladder scanner for the VGH Thoracics Unit  
  • 4 patient recliner chairs for VGH
  • Winter clothing for homeless youth served by VCH Children & Youth Mental Health & Addiction Services
  • Emergency clothing for VGH patients
  • Christmas presents for residents of Banfield Residential Care Home and George Pearson Centre


Past donations

The following is just a small sample of the Thrift Store’s past donations to VGH and other VCH-Vancouver programs:

  • anesthesia machines and monitors for surgical services
  • apheresis machines (cell separators) for the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program at VGH
  • patient vitals monitors for the Bronchoscopy Clinic at VGH
  • renovation of the patient/family lounge in the Brief Intervention Unit at VGH
  • stretchers and shower chairs for hospital inpatients
  • wander guard system for a VGH geriatric care unit
