I like to work as a volunteer at the VGH Thrift Store for many reasons. I have made friends, helped the hospital, and even practiced my English. I can also take this job as a reference for jobs and for my Canadian experience. – Patricia (volunteer since 2016)
The VGH Thrift Store operates because of the generosity, support and skills of our amazing volunteers.
Our volunteers tell us all the time that the store is a fun, friendly and safe place; they get tremendous personal satisfaction from helping others, obtaining experience relevant to future employment, supporting educational plans like university applications and of course meeting new friends.

We are open 6 days a week, from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm (Mon – Sat), and closed on Sunday. All we ask of our volunteers is a commitment to work a minimum of one shift of between 2 to 4 hours per week. (Once trained you’re welcome to volunteer more hours if you want to).
We accept applications from high school and university students, retirees, new immigrants, and any adult interested in supporting and giving back to our community. We believe in diversity and welcome individuals who may have English as a second language (ESL), people with physical disabilities and people with intellectual disabilities.

Training will be provided and we encourage volunteers to cross-train for other positions for greater knowledge and flexibility. No special qualifications are required.
I enjoy volunteering at VGH Thrift Store because I like interacting with people. As a student of pathology I’d also like to make a contribution to the community, and help raise funds for hospitals. – Wenchen (volunteer since 2018)
